Seema Sheoran                                                     President

Seema is a graduate student in the Department of Biological Sciences, Neurobiology Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her research focuses on understanding the molecular basis of synaptic transmission using C. elegans as a model system. She was awarded UIC Chancellor’s student service and leadership award for her contribution to the university and the community. Apart from doing research and serving the community, she enjoys running quite a bit! She has served as the Secretary for the GWIS Chicago Chapter (2017-18). This year, Seema has been nominated to take up the responsibilities of the President.


Thao Pham
Vice President 

Thao is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Medicine at Northwestern University.  She got her PhD from University of Illinois at Chicago in the year of 2016.  Her research has been focusing on the biology of fibrosis-driven thyroid and pancreatic cancer using different transgenic mouse models.  She enjoys cooking and exploring wine in her spare time.  Thao served as the Vice President (2016-2017) and President (2017-2018) of the GWIS Chicago Chapter and is looking forward to her continued involvement in the leadership.


Eliza Jacobs-Brichford                                                                       National Liaison

Eliza is a fourth year PhD student at University of Illinois at Chicago. Her research assesses the impact of adolescent cannaboid exposure on the development of prefrontal cortex and decision-making in adulthood. Eliza has been actively involved with a number of non-profit organizations across the city of Chicago to promote science education. She will continue to serve as the National Liaison for the Chicago Chapter, the position she has held since 2017.



Samantha Keil                                                                              Social Media and Networking Officer

Sam is a PhD candidate in the Department of Neurology and Rehabilitation at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has a great interest in getting involved across sciences to build a strong network in Chicago. Sam’s hobbies include hiking, traveling and live music!
