Thao Pham                                                           President 

Thao is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Medicine at Northwestern University.  She got her PhD from University of Illinois at Chicago in the year of 2016.  Her research has been focusing on the biology of fibrosis-driven thyroid and pancreatic cancer using different transgenic mouse models.  She enjoys cooking and exploring wine in her spare time.  Thao served as the Vice President (2016-2017) of the GWIS Chicago Chapter and is looking forward to her continued involvement in the leadership as the President.

 

 

Laura Cook                                                          Vice President

Laura has been a postdoctoral fellow and Research Assistant Professor in Microbiology at University of Illinois at Chicago since August 2012.  She currently works in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Federle studying colonization of the host by streptococci using a mouse model of bacterial carriage.  Besides bacteria, she loves reading Russian novels, traveling (23 countries and counting) and hanging out with her infant daughter.  She has served as the Vice President (2015-2016) and President (2016-2017) of GWIS. She is excited to help the new leaders transition into their roles as the current Vice President.

 

 

Jacklynn Fitzgerald

Jacklynn is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee.  Her research is on neural circuitry underlying threat processing and regulation in acute trauma survivors using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and electroencephalogram (EEG) methods.  Jacklynn served as the past Vice President (2014-2015), President (2015-2016), National Liaison (2016-2017) of the GWIS Chicago Chapter and continues to be involved in its leadership.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Seema Sheoran                                                                     Secretary

Seema is a graduate student in the Department of Biological Sciences, Neurobiology Program at University of Illinois at Chicago.  Her research focuses on understanding the molecular basis of synaptic transmission using C. elegans as a model system.  She has served as the reviewer for the GWIS Chicago Chapter travel awards (2016-2017). Seema will take up new responsibilities as the Secretary of the Chicago Chapter for the upcoming year.

 

 

 

Eliza Jacobs-Brichford                                                                  National Liaison

Eliza is a fourth year PhD student at University of Illinois at Chicago. Her research assesses the impact of adolescent cannaboid exposure on the development of prefrontal cortex and decision-making in adulthood. Eliza will be taking on the role of National Liaison for the Chicago Chapter.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Yashema Hunter                                                                                        Social Media and Networking Officer

Yashema has a Master’s degree in Applied Physiology from Chicago State University and Bachelor degree in Biology from University of Illinois at Chicago.  Her research background is in neuroscience (characterization of the progression of the ataxic disease in spontaneous mutation mouse model) and hematology (prophylactic drug treatment in hemophilia mouse models/human specimen).  Also, she taught high school/ undergraduate students Physics, Microbiology, Anatomy & Physiology and other sciences.  She enjoys volunteering for different non-profit organizations and exploring the art world. Yashema will be taking on the role of Social Media & Networking Officer for the Chicago Chapter.
